Kathy Monson
Parental involvement is essential to student success.

Here are some ways that you can help your child succeed in music:
  • Make sure your child is practicing every day.  Consistent practice reinforces new skills on their instrument and voice.  Ideally, your child should be practicing 5 days per week for 20 minutes at a time.
  • Be aware of your child's progress.  Students should be passing one page per week.
  • The best way to reach Mrs. Monson is via email:
Fifth Grade Band - progress is recorded on the chart in the front cover of their lesson book.
Sixth Grade Band - progress is recorded on their 'neon green' assignment chart.  Grades are also posted on JMC.
Sixth Grade Choir / General Music - Grades are updated weekly on JMC.

How to get involved with Dover-Eyota Music:
  • Attend "Pops 'n Pie", an annual variety show / fundraiser sponsored by the Dover-Eyota Music Association.
  • Contact a music teacher to help with supervision on concert nights!
  • Help chaperone a marching band parade in the summertime.
  • Come to a DEMA (Dover-Eyota Music Association) meeting for more ideas!
Find DEMA on Facebook or online: http://www.desch.org/page/2625
5th Grade Band
Mrs. Monson & Mr. Anderson are happy to welcome you to the thriving band program here at D-E! Our band performs one concert with Music Explorers each school year. We also perform during the Fifth Grade Graduation ceremony.
6th Grade Band
Sixth grade is an exciting year in the band program! Between the concerts and solo performances, our students are becoming mature musicians at an early age. Our band performs three concerts as a group each school year. Individuals band students perform at the Middle School Solo Festival in May. Sixth Grade Students are invited to join Middle School Jazz Band.
6th Grade Music
First semester, all sixth grade students participate in choir class. Choir practices during the school day, however the concert is in the evening. Our choir performs three concerts as a group each school year. Please see the "performance calendar" for dates. Second semester, we offer both choir and general music classes. These classes meet every other day during the regular school day.
